Get to Know Briana
Why did you choose to focus on sexual assault?
I chose to focus on sexual assault cases because I get the opportunity to help survivors tell their story and seek justice through the civil process. Survivors have rights! It is my goal to inform them of those rights and support them on their path of recovery.
What is a message you would like to give sexual assault survivors who are afraid of pursuing their perpetrators in civil court?
The law places time limitations on how long a survivor has to pursue a civil case for sexual assault. Every survivor should be informed about these limitations. It is normal to feel afraid, but know that you are not alone. We will be by your side during the duration of your case. What happened to you was not your fault. By pursuing a civil claim against the perpetrator, you regain strength and power. Through your bravery, you help empower other victims to come forward and speak out.
More About Briana
I am a first-generation student and attorney. My mother immigrated to the US at the age of five. As a single mother of five children, she worked tirelessly to make sure my siblings and I always had a roof over our heads. I am a Mexican and African-American woman who made history when I was 24 years-old, as a founding member of the first entirely African-American Women Law Review Managing Board in California. I like to think that I get my hard work ethic and dedication from my mother. I strongly believe that it is important to do things in this life that make you happy. Using happiness as your guiding light through tough times will always lead you to where you want to be. In my free time, I play on a co-ed softball team and enjoy playing pick-up basketball.
