Get to Know Samantha
Why are you choosing to focus on sexual assault?
This is my life’s passion, everyone I know has been affected by sexual violence, so my hopes are to end it and protect survivors on our way to that goal. Since I can remember I have been an advocate for all survivors, I studied it immensely at my university, pushed for policy change, and consistently requested better resources for survivors. I want to be the assistant, advocate, paralegal, and future policy writer that I needed when I became a survivor. Working with survivors is an absolute honor and I am inspired everyday by their resilience – I could not think of better work to dedicate my life to.
What is a message you would like to give survivors of sexual assault who are afraid of pursuing their perpetrators in civil court?
The perspective that I believe is empowering to share with survivors, is when making the decision to pursue justice against your perpetrator(s) this is a decision that is in your control. Making this decision can be the way you harness your power back.
It may not be easy, but it can certainly still be healing.
